This is how the OBS look like
“Technology is best when it brings people together” - Matt Mullenweg

Mr. John Mark C. Molina discussed with us the Open Broadcaster Software, or OBS. He is a graduate of Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE). My important takeaway in this discussion is that the OBS is also used by most bloggers because it has a user-friendly interface but does not have tutorials. Fortunately, you can watch tutorials that are uploaded on YouTube. I have also learned that this software is the technology or application that can help you do a formal Facebook or YouTube live. Unlike the traditional way of radio broadcasting, such as the video performance that was shown to us by MAJ PANCITO, it was more tiring and complex as their performance was continuous and undistracted. Fortunately, Sir Pancito said that we would not be doing that. We could actually make use of the technologies at hand to help us.

To start with, we defined OBS as a software suite that is free and open-source and is used for recording and live streaming. As mentioned earlier, it has a user-friendly interface. It is used to capture and record your screen while also capturing audio in live video production, live streaming, and video recording. We also discussed the history of OBS, the OBS unit interface, and the Studio mode. There are at least three reasons why we should use the OBS software. For starters, it has an easy-to-use interface, a small file size, and multi-platform support. However, we should also consider the disadvantages, such as the fact that it has no tutorials unless you watch them from other sources, such as YouTube. It also has no preview of scenes and no ability to use multiple scene transitions.

We also learned about livestreaming, which is when the video is sent over the internet in real time without being pre-recorded and stored. How does it work? through video capture, encoding, segmentation, CDN distribution and caching, decoding, and playback. We observed how these things are done as our instructor showed them on the screen. He demonstrated how to use OBS to do Facebook Live. He also showed us how to livestream on YouTube and what equipment you need to operate it.

Our main takeaways from this session are as follows: First, practice is essential. You should write a script first and practice it. Also, practice recording videos to ensure that everything goes right, so when you start live streaming to your audience, you will know what to do. In addition, you should know your audience. Every stream is different. The type of video content you create for customers will be different from the content you create for employees. In other words, you should know for whom you’re recording your videos.

In the afternoon, we had our instructor, ASJO Shaira Mae P. Rivera (PN), discuss with us the feature documentary script and short film script. Ma'am Suzon mentioned writing news reports, and I could tell them apart from today's lecture. So, for today’s lecture, it is about being imaginative and creative. We write a script here that tells a creative story in order to entice and amaze the audience.

Documentaries are fascinating and capture the brilliance of humanity when executed thoroughly. Every director and producer has his or her own routine for writing a documentary script, which can be very liberating to those who are just starting out. Depending on the subject of the documentary, the schedule can be incredibly pressing, which means that having a system in place prior to embarking on a new documentary project can be quite rewarding.
