“I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. This is why right temporarily defeated is stronger than evil triumphant.”
- Martin Luther King
In using public information, the AFP and the PNP makes use of all different forms of media platform in order to intensify public awareness of all the activities being implemented by the organization. Basically, the people need to know what the police are up to, and efforts to make this information more accessible goes a long way. Publishing police reports and other public documents on the department website, establishing an obvious physical presence, and holding open-forum community discussions all help to increase the transparency of the police department. There are many different public information activities that was discussed such as press release, media appearances, press conference, information campaign or communication plan, symposium or pulong-pulong, face to face dialogues, print and audio-visual presentations.
In the Philippine National Police set up, it was discussed by PLTCOL TRUMATA that the Public Information Officer (PIO) and the Public Affairs (PA) are separate entities. The PIO is under the office of the Chief Philippine National Police. PNP chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. appointed Col. Redrico Maranan as head of the police public information office. Maranan, a member of the Philippine National Police Academy Class of 1995, replaced Brig. Gen. Roderick Augustus Alba, who was reassigned as director of the Central Visayas police. As the PNP’s chief publicist, among Maranan’s functions is to promote a positive public image for the police force as well as establish a professional working relationship with reporters covering Camp Crame.[1]
